KPOP Demon Hunters (Review)

If you are a Kpop fan, then the movie gives you several cues to experience Kpop nostalgia: Good Disney style pop music replete with Korean words, a pre-concert Ramyeon ritual, fan signing events, band mates co-ordinated on fancy stage wear with synchronised dance moves, boy bands sporting multi-coloured hair and fancy ear piercings, a mythological angle:Joseon era style that a lot of Kdramas incorporate etc.

Squid Game: Season 3 Review

Gi Hun relies and survives on pure play luck that has been following him since the second season; not determination, not strategy, not planning or even basic survival instincts. The prima facie factor that makes squid games so popular, its unpredictability regarding the survival of the characters remains intact. The deaths happen, some through heartbreaking and tough choices and others just brutal. Gi Hun’s lacklustre attitude but lucky survival in the beginning of the season is one main area that the season falls short. Besides that, it’s the lack of answers.

Adolescence

What I liked about Adolescence is, it could have been easily a winding 8 episode series with emotional dialogues and drawn out scenes, but, it’s the film making and scripting genius which keeps it detailed, yes, but still concise and limited.

The actors all undoubtedly do a job par excellence and I give full marks to the casting. The writers even manage to build stories around the side characters through small interactions in the limited screen time. The sheer brilliance of adolescence is how it manages to convey a lot in a single instance and almost every instance. A lot is left unsaid with cues for the audience to gauge and read into. And in that, the series demands the complete attention of the viewers at the risk of missing details, because every line delivered is loaded and every reaction can be measured in meaning.

Perfect Match (Chinese Drama 2025)

erfect Match does weave perfect and interesting plots but I don’t understand the need to show excessive submissiveness in all the male leads. The Ling daughters all land up marrying well, but the drama reduces smart, worldly wise, handsome and sought after men into wife petticoat chasers, scared to offend their girls and displays multiple instances where they bend their knees to their demands and wishes, however unreasonable. The females don’t compromise under any circumstances, on the contrary their actions are actually lauded and justified. The men get accused of conspiring together while it’s perfectly fine for the women folk to do so. Especially in the case of the 5th couple, the interactions are actually domestic violence.
