Bad Cop runs around a case of mistaken identity; twins who are opposite in their pursuit in life, one for the law and the other against. With names like Karan Arjun in the picture, you expect great things from the duo! The other latest reference to the two brothers on the opposite ends of the Mahabharat battlefield was in Kalki 2898 AD. Check out our review here.
Gulshan Devaiah, with his slightly oily and pitted face makes for a very believable cop. You don’t need stellar looks and washboard abs to execute smooth action sequences as proved by Devaiah. Devaiah has tried to bring about the contrast between the twins in their running styles, their dressing and choice of words.
Anurag Kashyap makes a rare appearance in front of the camera as Kazbe, an illegal supplier of items begotten from elephant poaching. Kashyap’s portrayal of Kazbe as a mutton loving, jail thriving, temperamental criminal deep rooted in familial emotion is modest though at times a little over the top, especially his pistol brandishing lungi clad bed tumble with a call girl.. Hilarious! He dotes on his elder sister and his nephew, Raghav, who works hard to prove and please. Though, his hot headedness and impulsiveness gets him and Kazbe into trouble multiple times.
The murder of a well known crime journalist, Anand Mishra in which Arjun accidentally gets embroiled leads him to seek the help of his police officer brother Karan. Hard on their tail is Arif Khan, who works at the CIB and has his own personal agenda in the case.Arif is crude, rude and a rule breaker through and through. He has no compunctions about turning up at 2 am at Karan and Devikas’s residence for questioning and then bugging their house. A maverick, with a penchant for not following protocols and orders; he and Karan/Arjun are at constant odds with each other. Anand was a friend and mentor of sorts to Arif, who had always emphasized digging till you find oil and that the answers lies in details.
The female leads are bold, gutsy and smart. Devika is responsible, thinks on her feet and is the no nonsense SHO of the police station. In contrast, kiki is sultry, vivacious but quick on her feet, capable of losing even the smartest officers.
Things are not quite peaceful at Devika and Karan’s residence. Their marriage is on the rocks amidst ego clashes between the two. Devika does not appear to want to leave or not love, in comparison to Karan’s done with attitude. She blunders between being the concerned wife and his senior at work. She catches on to changes in Karan’s attitude, not realising there has been a swap. The meek Arjun seems a more apt husband for Devika, while he learns how to be a cop through Youtube videos and dodges several bullets at work. Arjun begins to get swayed and comfortable playing house with Devika and her daughter, Rhea. A fact that kiki catches onto and is not happy about.
Pakadne aaye the byadah, Phas Gaya Raja! Things come to a boil, when kazbe’s multimillion dollar consignment gets into the police department’s hands and a damaged Hard drive in Arifs hands. There are big reveals regarding Karan and since one of the monologues in the beginning were Saat Main Jeeyenghe aur Saat main Marenghe, does that mean we get to see more of Karan in season 2 😏?
